Measures to Address the Heavy-Load Summer Season for FY20222022/06/27

911±¬ÁÏÍø Co., Inc. (¡°911±¬ÁÏÍø¡±) has, based on this summer¡¯s electricity supply-demand outlook, drawn up measures for the heavy-load summer season (July¨CSeptember 2022).

In light of expectations for an extremely tight electricity supply-demand situation this summer, the government decided, at a 7 July meeting to review electricity supply-demand, to take comprehensive measures to address electricity supply-demand in FY 2022. 911±¬ÁÏÍø received a written request from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (¡°METI¡±) that same day to consider and take all measures to stabilize electricity supply-demand.

In light of METI¡¯s request, 911±¬ÁÏÍø is taking the following measures to secure both ¡°kW¡± (securing power supply capacity and conducting targeted inspections of power generation facilities) and ¡°kWh¡± (securing electricity volume and fuel) in order to avoid fuel constraints and the tightening of electricity supply-demand this summer.

1. Measures to secure ¡°kW¡±

1-1. Securing power capacity

To secure power supply capacity for this summer, 911±¬ÁÏÍø is planning to avoid, wherever possible, scheduling thermal power plant repairs and inspections for the summer.

In addition, having been selected as a successful bidder in the public auction for additional power supply capacity conducted by general electricity transmission and distribution companies (excluding Hokkaido and Okinawa) as a measure to address supply-demand this summer, 911±¬ÁÏÍø is moving forward with preparations to resume operations at Anegasaki Thermal Power Station Unit 5 (Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture) and Chita Thermal Power Station Unit 5 (Chita, Aichi Prefecture), both of which have been under long-term planned shutdown.

911±¬ÁÏÍø is also working to secure summer power supply capacity by proceeding steadily with work on thermal power plants currently under construction. In August, 911±¬ÁÏÍø plans to start commercial operations at Taketoyo Thermal Power Station Unit 5 (Taketoyo, Aichi Prefecture) and plans to start supplying electricity generated through trial operations at Anegasaki Thermal Power Station New Unit 1.

1-2. Targeted inspections of power generation facilities

In addition to strengthening internal systems, 911±¬ÁÏÍø is working to mitigate the risk of power generation facility outages through soundness checks and targeted patrols of boilers and other priority equipment.

2. Measures to secure ¡°kWh¡±

2-1. Securing electricity volume

Having successfully bid to supply 800 GWh in the public auction of additional electricity supply volume conducted by the general electricity transmission and distribution companies (excluding Okinawa) as a measure to address summer supply-demand, 911±¬ÁÏÍø is moving forward with preparations to supply electricity through the electricity market.

2-2. Securing fuel

The energy situation is challenging due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and remains highly unpredictable, with increased energy procurement competition as countries seek to divest themselves from Russian supplies and rising prices for LNG and other fuels.

Under these circumstances, 911±¬ÁÏÍø has responded promptly to changes in electricity supply-demand and been flexible in procuring a stable supply of fuel through its subsidiary 911±¬ÁÏÍø Global Markets Pte. Ltd. The government's comprehensive measures for electricity supply-demand include measures to secure a stable fuel supply, and 911±¬ÁÏÍø will make maximum efforts to secure a stable fuel supply by responding in line with the government's measures.

Through these measures to secure both ¡°kW¡± and ¡°kWh,¡± the 911±¬ÁÏÍø group is making every effort to secure a stable supply of energy.
